PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters responded to a single-vehicle accident around 4:30 p.m. Monday in the Sam’s Club parking lot, located at 4100 W. Willow Knolls Road.
Battalion Chief Rick Morgan said the truck an 80-year-old man was driving hit a metal shopping cart holder.
“Parts of the frame of the cart had protruded into the truck and made contact with the right side of his face,”Morgan said.
The man suffered traumatic blunt force injuries to his face.
“Once we removed the driver door, we were able to gain access to the patient. We placed him on a gurney and continued to assist medics with prepping him for transport,” Morgan said.
The man was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. Information about his status was unavailable as of Monday night.
