PEORIA, Ill. — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Peoria and the surrounding counties Monday until 7:00 P.M.
News partner 25 News Chief Meteorologist Chuck Collins said that damaging winds can be expected when the storms arrive late Monday afternoon.
“A line of showers and thunderstorms will move through Metro-Peoria between four and six this [Monday] afternoon,” said Collins. “Widespread damaging winds of 60-75 miles per hour are the main threat, but a tornado or two can’t be ruled out.”
Collins added that large hail and locally heavy rain are possible as well.
Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, and Fulton counties are all under the Watch.
UPDATE: 2:18 p.m. — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Peoria, Woodford, and Northeastern Tazewell counties until 3:15 p.m.
