PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria, Woodford, and Tazewell tri-county between Saturday and Monday experienced 170 new cases of coronavirus, while hospitalizations related to COVID-19 have risen above 50.
The biggest increase came in Peoria County, where 94 additional cases arose.
Tazewell reported 59 new cases, while Woodford had 17.
Of the hospitalizations, 14 were intensive care-level.
“Our ICU capacity has increased drastically,” said Monica Hendrickson, Peoria City/County Health Administrator.
“We sit at about 8% of our ICU beds that are in use in our area, compared to just a few weeks before, when we were under 3%.
“This sharp increase, again, talks about what we’re seeing in our community with this increase in cases and individuals showing a variety of symptoms.”
39 non-ICU beds were being used by COVID patients.
35 of those hospitalizations were of Peoria County residents. 1,098 of Peoria’s 1,598 cases since the start of the pandemic have recovered.
483 were in home isolation.
Around 64% of the area’s total cases have recovered, 32% were in home isolation, and just under 2% were hospitalized.
