PEORIA, Ill. — On Friday, the Peoria County coroner released the name of an inmate found unresponsive in the Peoria County Jail on Thursday morning.
Coroner Jamie Harwood said 60-year-old Frederick Jamerson, of Peoria, died in his jail cell.
Harwood said the autopsy on Jamerson was inconclusive.
“What makes an autopsy inconclusive is when we don’t find a 100% definitive cause of death,” Harwood said.
Jamerson tested negative for COVID-19, which Harwood said was an immediate concern, and there were no signs of trauma.
Additional testing, including biopsies, tissue testing and toxicology are pending.
Jamerson was found in his cell around 7:10 a.m. Thursday.
Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said jail staff, Limestone Fire and AMT unsuccessfully tried to resuscitate Jamerson. He was pronounced dead around 7:42 a.m.
Jamerson was booked into the Peoria County Jail on Aug. 4 after an arrest by Illinois State Police.
