PEORIA, Ill. — Carl Cannon, with Peoria Housing Authority, was shocked to hear about the passing of 61-year-old Hazel Turner last Friday night at Taft Homes.
Cannon told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, he was with Miss Hazel the day before she suffered a fatal heart attack at her residence.
Cannon said he was told the reason emergency personnel with AMT couldn’t get to her was because a nearby gate was welded shut.
“The gates do have locks. But, the primary entrance to Taft (Homes), which is 50 feet away from Miss Turner’s residence is never locked,” Cannon said.
AMT’s Andrew Rand has said his crews that responded to Taft Homes Friday night did not have keys to locked gates at the scene.
