WOODFORD COUNTY, Ill. — Three people are dead after an overnight crash involving an ambulance near Benson.
Illinois State Police said the accident happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday in the area of Rt. 116 and County Road 2400 East when a car drove into the path of the ambulance.
The ambulance hit the driver’s side of the car, according to the ISP.
Three people in the car were killed: The driver, 20-year-old Morgan Ryder of Gridley, 19-year-old Jared Seggerman of Minonk and 19-year-old Seth Unruh of Pattonsburg, according to State Police.
The ambulance driver and 21-year-old Blake Hert, from Minonk, were transported to a hospital. Hert’s injuries were serious.
The passengers in the ambulance, including an elderly patient, were said to be ok.
Autopsies will be performed by the Woodford County coroner on Sunday.
Rt. 116 was closed for about six hours.
