PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — The Peoria County Jail’s current population is 265. To date, 191 inmates have tested negative for COVID-19, according to Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell.
“At this point, we have received 227 tests, and still we’ve remained at status quo with 34 positives,” Asbell said.
Asbell said staff infections are unchanged from last Friday, with six confirmed cases and another 12 employees off-duty because they’re symptomatic, awaiting test results or they’ve been placed on exposure quarantine.
“It’s looking better than expected, it’s still bad. But, this is averaging out to be now about a 15% positivity rate,” Asbell said.
5 of 18 jail employees who were taken off-duty due to COVID-19 have returned to work after completing isolation protocol.
The Peoria County Jail continues to work with the Peoria City/County Health Department in dealing with the spread of COVID-19.
