PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. — Five more inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Peoria County Jail.
Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell said the total number of coronavirus cases in the jail’s population now stands at 34.
“To date, we’ve completed 166 tests on detainees, and out of those, 34 are positive and 132 are negative. There are roughly 85 outstanding tests, making the positivity rate about 20%” Asbell said.
18 jail workers are currently off-duty due to COVID-19 scenarios, including testing positive, awaiting test results, or exposure to the virus.
“All the testing have been completed. We’re actually making a trip down to Springfield to get the last of the tests in, so we should have all results in by early next week,” Asbell said.
