SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — For the first time since early June, the state of Illinois’s 24-hour COVID-19 case count surpassed the 1,500 mark over a 24-hour period.
The Illinois Department of Public Health on Wednesday announced 1,598 new cases of the virus. That was the highest daily case count since 1,614 on June 2.
There were also 23 additional deaths to report.
1,456 Illinoisans were hospitalized as of Tuesday night with COVID. 337 ICU beds were being occupied by coronavirus patients, while 132 needed ventilators.
To date, over 2.3 million COVID-19 tests have been administered across the state.
