SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — After a brief surge in cases late last week and over the weekend, Illinois apparently continued Tuesday to tamp down COVID-19.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 707 new cases. While that number is still higher than the average as of two weeks ago, it’s also much lower than the 1,000-plus cases reported Thursday through Saturday.
25 people died between Monday and Tuesday from the virus.
155,506 cases have been reported since the pandemic began, with 7,218 deaths.
State labs have taken in just over two million specimens over the last four months.
1,416 people throughout the state were said to be in hospitals with the virus, with 333 in intensive care units, and 126 on ventilators.
The rolling seven-day positivity rate, statewide, was 3%.
