PEORIA, Ill. — Fall 2020 registration is officially open for Peoria Public School families.
An online “learning options” form has been created for parents, which allows parents to choose between a virtual-only option and an A/B (hybrid) option.
Additionally, parents may select an online academy.
“It’s super, super independent,” said Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat.
“It’s two courses at a time, and [students] can go fast or slow.”
Kherat said as of Monday night’s Peoria Public Schools District 150 board meeting, 618 families had chosen the hybrid model.
149 families, or about 24%, had chosen virtual-only.
Kherat said letters would be sent out to families by next Monday regarding information about the A/B model.
“We are working with parents’ requests for ‘A’ days and ‘B’ days,” she said.
“It has to be balanced with transportation. Remember, transportation has a limit of 50 [students per bus at a time], so we’ll see what we can do.”
Kherat said her team will accommodate special requests as much as possible, but one thing the district is ensuring is students from the same family will be on similar schedules.
“So you don’t have little Johnny going ‘B’ day, then Jeffrey will go ‘A’ day. Everybody who’s going to school in that house, they’re going to school in that house on the same day,” she stressed.
Returning families have until Jul. 24 to select their option. After that date, students will be defaulted to the hybrid model.
“We need to know on or before the 24th whether you’re going to choose a virtual option, because there are other things we have to do in terms of staffing and schedules and those sorts of things,” Kherat said.
