MORTON, Ill. — Nearly 95% of parents surveyed by Morton School District 709 said they’ll send their children back to school next month despite concerns over COVID-19.
The results of the recent survey were shared with the Morton School Board on Tuesday.
Schools Superintendent Jeff Hill said over 64% of parents completing the survey said they will send their kids to school without conditions. 30% said their students would return with certain stipulations.
5% of parents said they’ll keep their kids at home, some whose students have medical conditions that make it risky to attend class while the virus is still spreading.
There were two other groups responding to the survey, one comprised of nearly 13% of the “attending-but” camp, said they want mask usage strictly enforced. The other, about 11%, wanted social distancing to be a top priority in the fall.
School board members will make their final recommendations for the fall at their next meeting on July 21.
