SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The state of Illinois could surpass the 7,000-death mark from COVID-19 by the weekend.
The Illinois Department of Public Health said 36 Illinoisans passed away between Wednesday’s and Thursday’s reporting periods, for a total of 6,987.
869 new cases were reported statewide.
Since testing began in March, 144,882 of 1,666,317 tests have come back positive.
The state’s rolling seven-day positivity rate stood at 2.6%.
