PEORIA, Ill. — On Monday, July 6, the City of Peoria is launching a Household Assistance Program for residents impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
$300,000 has been dedicated to the program that will provide mortgage or rental assistance of up to $5,000 per household.
“It’s for homeowners and for renters. It can go to rent payments, mortgage payments and utility payment for up to three months,” said the City’s Grants Coordinator Cassie Belter.
Peoria was recently awarded $1.6 million in funding through the federal CARES Act to be used specifically for Community Development.
Money from the CARES Act was also allocated to provide assistance to small businesses and non-profit organizations.
Applications for the Household Assistance Program will be accepted beginning at 8 a.m. Monday. The application deadline is 3 p.m. on Friday, July 17.
“The only qualifications are that you are a City of Peoria resident, that you have experienced some kind of financial hardship that makes it hard to pay your bills due to COVID-19, and that you qualify through our income threshold,” Belter said.
If selected, applicants will need to complete additional income and household information to receive assistance. Applicants must be at or below 80% of the median area income by household size.
Selected applicants will be contacted by City staff and a list of the lottery order will be available at www.appreciatepeoria.com.
