PEORIA, Ill. — For the first time in a 24-hour period since March, Peoria County from Monday to Tuesday had no positive COVID-19 tests to report.
Peoria City/County Health Department Communications Manager Diana Scott said the encouraging statistic came with a caveat.
“This is due more to timing of the lab reporting in batches,” she said.
“With two data uploads to us [Monday], we had higher numbers — that is why data averages over several days sometimes makes more sense than reporting daily numbers.”
Still, it was a welcomed sign for the tri-county after the weekend saw the area’s death total from COVID grow by two.
While Peoria County remained at 487 and Woodford remained at 34, Tazewell did report three new cases, for a new total of 127.
The area’s recovery rate improved once again to above 80% — 80.3%, to be exact — while 12.7% of cases were in home isolation, and 1.2% were hospitalized.
Two area intensive care unit beds remained occupied by confirmed COVID-19 patients, unchanged from Monday.
