PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters responded just before 1:30 a.m. Friday to a fire at a residence in the 2000 block of W. Malone.
“When first crews arrived, they found heavy smoke coming showing from the eaves. They found fire in a back bedroom of the house,” said Fire Batallion Chief Ralph Phillips.
The occupants got out of the house about the time that first crews arrived.
“They did have some minor smoke inhalation. They were checked out by Peoria fire crews and AMT checked them out. They refused treatment at the scene,” Phillips said.
The residents said two cats and two dogs were still inside the home.
Crews rescued one cat and two dogs. A second cat was not found.
Firefighters knocked down the fire in about 15 minutes.
The Red Cross was called to provide temporary housing.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
