SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — 601 new cases of COVID-19 were reported Tuesday by the Illinois Department of Public Health.
The new cases bring the state’s total number of confirmed cases during the course of the pandemic to 137,825.
The IDPH also reported 38 additional deaths, bringing the total to 6,707.
Illinois’ seven day positivity rate dropped to 2% over the weekend and has remained steady.
Dr. Ngozi Ezike, the Director of the IDPH, said Illinois has been on a downward trend for weeks.
“Illinois has seen declining cases and declining fatality totals week after week for the past five consecutive weeks,” Ezike said.
According to Ezike, six weeks ago Illinois was reporting 4,000 cases with over 100 deaths in a 24 hour period.
“We peaked at over 5,000 patients in the hospital with COVID-19 and 1,290 ICU patients on April 28,” Ezike said.
