WASHINGTON, Ill. — Washington Police Chief Mike McCoy said Tuesday the body found on June 17 in a drainage ditch is being investigated as a homicide.
The call came into the WPD at around 9:30 a.m.
“Washington Police Department received a report of a body behind the Washington Plaza, formerly known as the Sunnyland Plaza,” McCoy said.
Tazewell County Coroner Charles Hanley identified the victim as 34-year-old Kyle McMurtrey.
McCoy said that very few details on the investigation will be released.
“To protect the integrity and speed and development of the investigation,” McCoy said.
The incident is under investigation by the Washington Police Department, Illinois State Police, Division of Criminal Investigations, and Zone 4 Peoria Violent Crimes Office.
