PEKIN, Ill. — Phase Four of the Restore Illinois Plan is on the horizon, and the Pekin City Council approved to extend an executive order regarding outdoor sales areas.
Pekin City Manager Mark Rothert said this order helps out local food and drink establishments.
“Extend the ability for restaurants and taverns to allow for outside dining, subject to capacity limits and social distancing requirements,” Rothert said.
The extended order will expire on October 31 of this year.
Mayor Mark Luft said this is the right thing to do.
“This Friday the 26th we should move into Phase Four, which allows 50% occupancy,” Luft said.
“Which is still not quite enough to financially keep some establishments stable.”
Luft said it will also help out patrons who are not yet comfortable with indoor dining just yet by allowing continued outdoor service.
“It still gives them that option throughout the summer to be able to go out and have a meal,” Luft said.
The council approved unanimously to extend the order.
