PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria Firefighter/Paramedics responded Wednesday to the 5300 block of W. Landens Way just before 8:00 a.m. for a fire in a hotel room.
While en-route, dispatchers received reports of smoke and full fire response was requested.
The first crews on scene made entry into the hotel and found smoke in the hallway on the second floor, which appeared to coming from one of the rooms, according to Battalion Chief Nate Rice.
An attack hose line was advanced to the room and the fire was under control by 8:05 a.m. The fire appeared to start in the bathroom.
“And they were able to use that hose line to basically quickly put it out,” Rice said.
Crews also noticed that the hotel’s sprinkler system had gone off in the room and worked to control the system to prevent water damage.
During the extingusihing of the fire, other crews checked other rooms of the hotel to make sure there were no other occupants inside.
“Fortunately all the occupants had got out,” Rice said.
Hotel staff were able to make other arrangements for guests.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation and the fire caused around $50,000 worth of damage.
Rice said when there is a commercial structure fire there are many aspects that need to be addressed.
“Especially with you’re talking about multiple rooms, you’re talking about a sprinkler system going off,” Rice said.
“There’s more things that need to be addressed in those situations, and so it just takes a little more man-power.”
