PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to the 1600 block of W. Fredonia.
Crews found smoke coming from the front of the Whittier School building and flames coming from the second floor.
Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rada said the fire was contained to a small area on the first floor.
“Nobody was at the school. We didn’t exactly know what caused the fire obviously,” Rada said.
It took several fire companies to ventilate the structure due to the sheer size of the building.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
