PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. — A Black Lives Matter march drew around 150 people on Saturday to the streets of Peoria Heights.
Heights resident Tanisha Cayson organized the rally, which began at the library and went to Village Hall, and ended at Tower Park.
There, Rev. Tyson Parks of Bethel United Methodist Church delivered a speech about “bringing back love,” and addressed another controversial topic.
“I don’t want to sit up here and vilify law enforcement,” he said, “because I was part of law enforcement.
“But we need to hold one another accountable.”
Marchers included Heights Mayor Michael Phelan and Trustees Brandon Wisenburg and Diane Mariscal.
