PEORIA, Ill. — Ducks are on sale now.
The Center for Prevention of Abuse in Peoria has begun selling ducks for its annual Duck Race scheduled for the end of August.
The Center’s Executive Director Carol Merna told WMBD’s Greg and Dan, the need for their services has been constant through the COVID-19 pandemic with the shelter running at 75% capacity.
“But, we know that the other thing that’s stayed consistent is the number of bookings and arrests for domestic violence, which is still at a 100% increase than it was prior to this health crisis,” Merna said.
Merna said the increase in domestic violence locally means that funding for counseling, shelter for abuse victims and education is more important than ever.
“Every penny from the ducks sold goes to take care of people that come to us for help. You can’t beat that. The rate of return is remarkable,” Merna said.
The 32nd Annual Duck Race will be held Saturday, August 29 at the Eastside Centre in East Peoria. To sponsor a duck, click HERE.
