PEORIA, Ill. — Governor J.B. Pritzker made a visit to Peoria Friday afternoon to visit the federal testing site at the Peoria Civic Center parking lot.
Pritzker announced that 1 million COVID-19 tests have been performed in Illinois.
“This milestone is the result of the incredible work of so many people behind the scenes in state government, in our national guard, in our public and private hospital and healthcare systems,” Pritzker said.
During his visit to Peoria, the governor also announced that out of over 18,000 tests performed in the last 24 hours, 1,156 came back positive. The total number of positive cases reported in Illinois is 125,915.
“That’s a single day case positivity rate of 6.1%,” Pritzker said.
59 additional deaths related to COVID were reported in the last 24 hours, which brings the total to 5,795.
With recent protests and gatherings, Pritzker said health officials will be watching the case numbers of the next few weeks as Illinois approached phase 4 of the Restore Illinois plan.
“Because so many people followed the rules along the way. If people end up two to three weeks from now not having COVID-19, fantastic,” Pritzker said.
“About three weeks from now is the beginning of phase four, all four regions currently being on track to go to phase four.”
