PEORIA, Ill. — Tri-county COVID-19 numbers released Friday show a total of 399 cases since the pandemic began, with 298 of those coming from Peoria County.
There’s been a recent outbreak at University Rehab, causing a surge in numbers, and causing the overall recovery rate to drop from the 80s to 66%.
What’s more, local health officials have expressed concern positive case numbers may go up even more, with recent protest gatherings.
“Not just here in Peoria, but across the country, as public health officials, we’re really looking at the next 14 days to see, based on the virus’s incubation period, are we going to see a spike in cases come through?” said Peoria City/County Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson.
Tazewell County’s positive case count rose to 79. Woodford’s remained at 22.
The death toll was unchanged at 18.
On the economic front, Chris Setti, CEO of the Greater Peoria Economic Council, was touting the Business Recovery Program.
Businesses create a profile, then fill out a survey regarding where they are, financially.
“All the information is confidential. They can even make it anonymous, if they’d like,” he said.
“But one of the real features is the program is, if they wish, they could be assigned to a case manager.”
The manager would then help with tailored technical assistance and making connections to resources.
