PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria County reported 10 new cases of COVID-19.
The increase brings the total number of positive cases for Peoria County to 275.
Tazewell County also saw an increase in positive cases of three, for a total of 78. Woodford County remains stagnant at 22 confirmed cases.
Increases for Peoria County were expected after a reported outbreak at University Rehab, according to Dr. Gregg Stoner with Heartland Health Services.
The percent of those recovered in the Tri-County region is 67.7%, those who are at home isolating is 22.4%, and 4.8% are hospitalized.
Local hospital systems did not report any deaths in the past 24 hours.
There are five ICU beds in use in the local hospitals, four are confirmed cases.
The hospitals did report 23 non-ICU beds in use for those under investigation for COVID-19 and confirmed cases.
If the Tri-County region sees a second wave of COVID-19 increases, Stoner said the hospital systems are maintaining the capacity to hold more coronavirus patients.
“Now, they’ve added more patients coming in for elective surgeries and other medical reasons, but there is still a capacity to handle quite a few patients if there is indeed a second wave,” Stoner said.
There are concerns with the recent protests and gatherings that there will be a spike or second wave in cases.
Stoner said we would not know of a spike immediately.
“It’ll take about two weeks. It’ll take 14 days to see that spike. So, we have to watch for that 14 days from now,” Stoner said.
