***UPDATED STORY***
The identities of the suspected culprits have been identified.
20-year-old Ehad Asad has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm.
He was taken to Peoria County Jail.
39-year-old John McKee, the victim, was arrested for aggravated battery.
Detectives have determined through interviews the incident started when the McKee entered the store, and a verbal fight began between him and a clerk.
That’s when Asad, also a clerk at the store, allegedly grabbed the gun and shot at the victim, who suffered at least one gunshot wound to the leg.
Police now say McKee did have life-threatening injuries, but his condition has been upgraded to stable.
PEORIA, Ill. — Two people were taken into Peoria Police custody and a victim was expected to survive following a shooting Monday night at Sherman’s Liquor Store.
Peoria Police were dispatched a little before 6 after reports came in regarding a gunshot victim lying down in the parking lot.
Lieutenant John Briggs says the shots came from inside the store, but couldn’t offer any more detail about the suspects.
“We were able to call two individuals outside the business, into our custody,” he said.
“No one else was inside the business. Both those individuals are being detained at this time.”
Addressing unconfirmed reports regarding the suspects’ identity, Briggs added “I can’t confirm whether they’re owners, or employees, or whatnot.”
Briggs said the victim was in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
