EAST PEORIA, Ill. — Layoffs are looming for employees of East Peoria’s Par-A-Dice Casino.
According to a letter sent to current employees, Boyd Gaming said between 25-60% of Par-A-Dice workers could be out of a job by July.
“Based on guest limitations imposed by various regulatory authorities and overall economic conditions, it is clear that we will not be able to recall all of our team members in the foreseeable future,” the letter stated.
Furloughs of retained employees may also last more than six months.
“While we are trying to be as transparent as possible with our team members, we cannot determine at this time exactly how many members will be recalled to work, and how many will need to be laid off,” Boyd Gaming spokesperson David Strow said. “As a result, in accordance with applicable laws, we are providing notice to a portion of our workforce of the possibility for layoffs.”
The Illinois Gaming Board suspended all casino operations indefinitely back in April. Gov. J-B Pritzker said Wednesday that casinos would not reopen in phase three of “Restore Illinois”, slated to begin Friday.
If casinos are allowed to reopen in phase four, there will likely be occupancy restrictions similar to those imposed on bars and restaurants as they reopen.
Boyd Gaming said the company does have reopening plans ready. Patrons will have their temperatures taken at the door, hand sanitizer will be available, seating will be spaced for social distancing, and all workers will wear masks.
Boyd Gaming said health benefits for furloughed employees will continue through the end of July.
