PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich on Tuesday encouraged everyone who can get tested at the community-based testing site at Peoria Civic Center to do so.
“There’s a lot of federal resources being put into place there, and resources we should be taking advantage of,” he said.
“So, please, go get tested, even if you feel you’re healthy. It will help our numbers and help to ensure we can prove up our region is safe and moving in the right direction.”
Urich said there were a couple discrepancies between the state’s guidance under phase three of Restore Illinois and the guidance the City of Peoria has given.
One is the issue of live music, which the state permits to take place.
“We’re really discouraging this at this time, because it may really cause that break in social distancing,” he said.
The other is restricting of hours. Urich said Peoria City Council would be taking up the matter at its Tuesday evening meeting.
Urich said the city is working on a website for businesses with a food or liquor license to self-certify their compliance.
More than four out of every five local COVID-19 cases have recovered.
The Peoria-Tazewell-Woodford tri-county region’s total COVID-19 count has risen to 273 since testing began, with an 82% recovery rate.
Peoria County had 186, while Tazewell County had 68, and Woodford’s total was at 19.
Five ICU beds were in use, with three for persons under investigation and two for confirmed cases.
