PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria emergency crews were called around 3:45 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 1300 block of W. Holly Hedges Drive for a medical call that involved a person which had fallen.
Fire Battalion Chief Nate Rice said crews quickly realized they had a much bigger situation on their hands with dangerous levels of carbon monoxide found inside the home.
“They found multiple adults in there that had symptoms and seemed to be of altered consciousness or unconscious. They immediately got out of the house and put on the breathing apparatus.”
Several pets were also found in the home that were lethargic and ill.
Several fire companies and Peoria Police were called to the scene to provide assistance in getting the victims outside.
Six adults were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
“We did have one that was found not breathing. We did resuscitate that individual. And, got a pulse and the person breathing again,” Rice said.
Investigators said the source of the carbon monoxide appeared to be a pool heater inside the home.
