SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois saw an increase of 2,352 cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s total to 107,796 confirmed cases.
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 75 additional deaths were reported in the last 24 hours adding to 4,790 total lives lost related to the virus.
In Illinois, 722,247 total tests have performed, with 25,114 reported in the last 24 hours.
Dr. Ngozi Ezike with the IDPH said this weekend typically kicks off the unofficial start to the summer season.
“Although it’s unfortunate that we can’t throw a barbecue with 100 of our friends, I think it’s clear why we are in that situation,” Ezike said.
While it is not an easy time, Ezike said until there is a vaccine or proper treatment for the virus, we need to coexist with COVID-19.
“I know that you are doing your part to make sure that we can get to celebrations that we can celebrate with more normalcy,” Ezike said.
