CHILLICOTHE, Ill. — Floodwaters are high on River Beach Drive in Chillicothe.
People who live along the Illinois River pretty much know the drill.
On Thursday, flooding on River Beach Drive had reached 27.3 feet.
Resident Lisa Rogers told WMBD News, once you’ve lived through a few floods, you know what you have to do. She lives on the high end of River Beach Drive.
“I guess about five houses down, there’s a lot of sandbagging going on. And, I was there to help them.”
Rogers said she and her husband built their home on top of concrete pillars that allow for the floodwaters to go underneath it. Others aren’t as lucky.
“I know down at Layne Crossing, it’s pretty submerged. There’s some water across the road at River Beach Pub, which is about a half mile down from where we’re at,” Rogers said.
She adds, “at our house, the floodwaters are half way up the deck stairs.”
The American Red Cross can be seen patrolling the area daily, to see if residents need any assistance.
