PEORIA, Ill. — A child has died of a gunshot wound after a Wednesday afternoon incident in the East Bluff.
Peoria Police responded to a residence in the 2300 block of N. Maryland after 4 p.m. Wednesday, of an initial report of a child shot in the chest by a BB gun.
According to Public Information Officer Amy Dotson, when officers arrived they found a young child suffered an actual gunshot wound to the chest.
The shooting victim, reported as a young male between the ages of eight and nine, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries, where he ultimately succumbed to those injuries.
No suspect information was provided.
The incident remained under investigation.
