PEORIA, Ill. — The victim of Peoria’s third homicide of 2020 has been identified as 22-year-old Brein Metts of Peoria.
Peoria Police responded Wednesday around 7:15 p.m. to the 1700 block of N. Great Oaks on reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival police did not locate a gunshot victim, according to Public Information Officer Amy Dotson.
Metts arrived to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center by private vehicle with a reported gunshot wound.
“Initially when he presented to Saint Francis he was conscious and alert and breathing,” Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said. “They were able to get some diagnostic testing done.”
In the short amount of time Metts was at the hospital, his condition deteriorated rapidly.
Harwood said despite aggressive efforts, Metts succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 9:28 p.m.
An autopsy Thursday show that Metts sustained a single gunshot wound to the back and suffered detrimental internal bleeding.
The case is being investigated as a homicide by the Peoria Police Department and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office.
