CHICAGO, Ill. — Illinois’ peak has been pushed to mid-June.
Dr. Ngozi Ezike, Director of the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 1,266 new cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Illinois.
That brings the total number of positive cases in Illinois to 79,007, with 3,459 deaths.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Illinois is 11 days into phase two of the five phase plan.
“On a statewide basis, we haven’t passed our peak yet,” Pritzker said.
According to Pritzker, the state has not seen a significant decline in certain factors.
The hospital models show that hospitals can handle the current spread of the virus right now.
If the state were to open up right now and lift restrictions by the end of May, Pritzker said there would be a second wave of COVID-19, which is why the plan is in five phases.
There has been a dip in hospitalizations across the state since May 1.
So far, every region is on track, according to Pritzker.
