PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria firefighters were called around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday to the 2400 block of W. Wiswall for a house fire.
Upon arrival, crews found the single-story home fully engulfed in flames.
A resident was able to escape out the back door of the home before crews arrived, but his dog was trapped inside.
Crews made entry through the front door and knocked down the fire in under ten minutes.
Additional crews searched the home and found a German Shepard inside. The dog was brought outside and crews tried to revive it, but the dog did not survive.
The home suffered extensive fire and smoke damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
No injuries were reported.
