PEORIA, Ill. — A South Peoria double shooting early Sunday morning has left one dead and another critically injured.
Peoria Police responded at 2:59 to the 1500 block of Westmoreland Ave. on multiple ShotSpotter alerts.
Upon arrival, officers noted a crowd of approximately 200 people at a residence.
As the crowd dispersed, police found two shooting victims.
One victim was identified as 33-year-old Percy L. King.
King was found lying in a driveway, having apparently been shot in the chest. He was rushed to OSF Saint Francis where, at 3:35, he was pronounced dead, despite aggressive efforts to safe his life.
The other victim was found in the front yard of a home across the street from where King was found.
That male was taken to a local hospital, as well, where his condition was considered critical as of Sunday morning.
An investigation into suspects was underway.
Peoria Police were asking anyone with information to contact the PPD or CrimeStoppers, anonymously.
Multiple vehicles also appeared to be damaged by gunfire.
Police said they were looking into the reason for the large gathering.
