PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria City/County Health Department shed some light Wednesday on trends.
The department said the average per-day case count for a 7-day period has been eight. For a 14-day period, it was five.
“This is an important number to monitor and look at, because as we start talking more and more about what does reopening or relaxing policies and procedures look like, understanding trends in terms of case count data is really important,” said Monica Hendrickson, Health Administrator.
Hendrickson said ICU usage and bed count are likewise important.
“While right now, the Peoria region sits at a 22 percent usage for bed count, which puts us in a really safe area, it’s one we want to continue to monitor.
“Likewise, in a 7-day and 14-day period, we’ve seen the ICU usage has increased while total non-ICU bed count has stayed the same. With that, we really are monitoring this and wanting to understand fully what we’re seeing for our hospital systems, because they’re going to be a huge part in terms of moving us forward to the next phase as that time comes,” she said.
As of Wednesday, the Peoria-Tazewell-Woodford tri-county area had 140 positive COVID-19 cases.
That number consisted of 87 in Peoria, 12 in Woodford, and 41 in Tazewell. Those numbers included no new deaths from Tuesday to Wednesday.
22 ICU beds were in use for coronavirus, with confirmed cases at 17 and suspected cases at five.
