PEORIA, Ill. — As Illinois’s stay-at-home order extends into May, Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell expects that his office will have its hands full.
Social distancing will continue, and as of Friday, individuals in Illinois will be required to wear a mask or facial covering in public places indoors, such as stores.
“The way I interpret that is… once you’re inside the business, the social distance is removed,” he said.
This new requirement applies to all individuals over the age of two who are able to medically tolerate a face-covering or a mask.
Residents will also be required to wear a mask or face covering in public spaces outdoors where they cannot maintain six-foot distance from others.
“There’s a lot of people that don’t understand. Heck, we don’t understand half the time. We have to make several phone calls to get the proper explanation,” Asbell said.
Asbell told WMBD’s Greg and Dan residents can use a T-shirt, bandana or scarf to cover their faces to be in compliance with Gov. Pritzker’s executive order.
