PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria County Board Thursday night voted 17-0 to close the Heddington Oaks Assisted Living facility.
Last week, the county board announced its intentions to shutter Heddington Oaks by the end of the year.
The facility’s 140 residents will have roughly seven months to find other living arrangements.
Peoria County Board Chairman Andrew Rand said Thursday night that the county has lost millions of dollars each year running the care facility.
Peoria County residents will have 60 days to comment on the closure, but Rand said he’s hopeful the matter will be resolved by May or June.
The public will not have any say on whether Heddington Oaks is closed, but will decide if Peoria County can put the building up for sale.
