PEORIA, Ill. — A man died Wednesday night from a self-inflicted gunshot wound bafter leading Peoria Police on a high-speed chase.
Peoria Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said police officers were called about 7:40 p.m. to the 800 block of NE Madison regarding a man with a gun on the porch of a residence.
Upon arrival, police were told the man, identified Thursday as Jacob A. Davis of Peoria, drove off in a green van. He was then spotted by an officer in the 1000 block of NE Madison.
Officers chased Davis from Downtown Peoria to Townline Road and Industrial Road, ending up in a grassy area behind some businesses.
Dotson said Davis, who was still armed, ran from his vehicle while threatening to harm himself, was talking to negotiators when his gun discharged.
“Officers then immediately summoned emergency medics respond to the scene to render aid. He was pronounced deceased at the scene,” said Dotson.
“No shots were fired by the police.”
Illinois State Police was handling the investigation.
