PEORIA, Ill. — One person suffered a gunshot wound after a high speed chase Wednesday night with police through central Peoria.
According to scanner traffic, police attempted to arrest a person armed with a gun near downtown Peoria off of Madison Ave. around 7:45. After a foot chase, the suspect fled the area in a vehicle.
A police pursuit followed, as the suspect traveled at a high rate of speed from downtown Peoria via westbound I-74 to the War Memorial exit. The chase then led police from Brandywine heading eastbound on Glen to University.
Spike-strips were deployed to attempt to slow the suspect’s vehicle down as the chase continued northbound on University past Northmoor.

Police then trapped the suspect on Townline and Industrial, east of Allen Rd.
The suspect still displayed a gun to police.
Shortly after 8, a single gunshot was reported near a wooded area off of Townline Rd.
AMT medics were called in to transport the suspect to a local hospital.
No word how or who fired the shot, or the suspect’s condition.
Police continue to investigate.
