PEORIA, Ill. — A popular vlog series focusing on golf could be making its way to Peoria.
The series, Strapped, is created by NoLayingUp.com, a popular golf site.
Strapped is a series that puts two of the characters, Neil “Icarito” Schuester and Phil “Big Randy” Landes on a three day trip with a budget of $500.
On the trip, they must play three rounds of golf, eat, drink, and house themselves for two nights within that budget.
In the past, the two have made trips to southern California, Louisiana, and Baltimore.
To win, No Laying Up has created a contest where the winner will be determined by donations which will be used to fund junior golf.
Currently, Peoria is in the lead to be the next location of Strapped. Peoria is $2,500 and $2,600 ahead of the next closest cities, Anchorage and Boston respectively.
Thus far, Peoria has raised $3,580. Some donations have come from locally, but Scott Phegley, a driving force in bringing the show to Peoria, said that a large chunk of donations have come from outside the area.
Phegley created a site to help drive donations locally. When users donate to the local site, they are entered into a raffle with a $20 donation providing one raffle entry, a $50 donation providing three entries, and a $100 donation providing ten entries.
The raffle grand prize is a 50/50 raffle with the winner receiving $5,000 if the $10,000 goal is reached. In addition, a raffle prize is announced everyday until the final day of April 29.
Winning would also mean Peoria would keep all the money raised.
“Every dollar that’s raised for the winning city comes back to that city and can be donated locally,” said Phegley.
Phegley says that winning would be a great showcase for the Peoria area and all its great golf.
“It’s an awesome opportunity for central Illinois to showcase our golf courses and some of our local businesses,” said Phegley. “And it’s also just really fun.”
The official contest ends on April 30, and the local 50/50 winner will be announced on April 29.
