CHICAGO — The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Wednesday announced 2,049 new cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 98 additional deaths.
Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 35,108 cases, including 1,565 deaths, in 96 counties in Illinois. The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.
Gov. J.B. Pritkzer thanked lab technicians across the state in his daily address, saying specimen collected mean nothing without being able to take it somewhere to be examined.
“These tests are just swabs until a lab professional turns them into results,” said Pritzker. “These folks are a vital part of solving for our testing needs.”
Pritzker specifically named Reditus Laboratories in Pekin among others across the state.
“Know that I speak for all of Illinois when I say we are so grateful for the work that you do,” said Pritzker.
In addition, the Illinois COVID Response Fund has raised over $30 million from over 2,400 private donors since it launched on March 26, said Pritzker.
Pritzker said the fund provides grants to organizations in the most vulnerable communities in the state.
