FULTON COUNTY, Ill. — The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office got a call around 2 p.m. Tuesday about a man in the Illinois River near Liverpool.
Authorities found the man unresponsive in the water upon arrival.
Fulton County Coroner Steve Hines said the victim, 20-year-old Drake Yerbic, had been fishing with a friend when he swam out into the river to retrieve a boat.
“The boat had left the bank, and he attempted to retrieve it. And, was unable to do so. He succumbed to the water and drowned,” Hines said.
Yerbic was pronounced deceased shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The coroner said foul play is not suspected. There will be no autopsy.
