SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois’ Attorney General Kwame Raoul is warning the public about scams related to stimulus payments coming from the federal government.
The first wave of payments is going out. Raoul said his office is already getting complaints about con artists trying to get people’s personal information.
Any email or text message talking about these stimulus payments aren’t coming from the government.
“Also, any phone call asking individuals for their private information is not a phone from anyone that has anything to do with these payments,” Raoul said.
He reminds Illinois residents that they don’t have to apply for payments, pay any fees or give out personal information in order to receive stimulus money.
“People also ought to be cautious of anyone coming to the door that claim to be public officials,” Raoul said.
