PEORIA, Ill. — The total COVID-19 case count for the Peoria-Tazewell-Woodford tri-county area rose Sunday to 53.
Peoria’s and Tazewell’s count rose one a piece, from 26 and 18 on Saturday to 27 and 19, respectively.
Woodford County’s count remained at seven.
Speaking at Thursday’s Peoria City/County Health Department news conference (the most recent health department conference), Administrator Monica Hendrickson said the fact the numbers haven’t gone up exponentially is good, but more still needs to be done.
“Let’s not take our good work and just throw it away, but rather continue it, so we are on that pace to a healthier community [where] everyone can access our healthcare system equitably,” she said.
Six confirmed cases were in ICU as of Sunday afternoon, while 10 persons under investigation for COVID-19 were in ICU.
That was down from Saturday’s total of 21 ICU beds.
“Again, while this is an improvement, it’s showing what we’ve put into place is working, but we’re not out of the storm yet,” remarked Henderson.
