CHICAGO — More than 450,000 Illinois households will receive additional Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits beginning April 8, said the Illinois Department of Human Services.
In addition, those who are eligible for more benefits should receive them by April 20.
The Illinois Department of Human Services said this is to help Illinoisans to obtain food for their families during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The maximum SNAP benefit amounts will be implemented for April and May.
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Monday announced 1,006 new cases of COVID-19 in Illinois, including 33 additional deaths.
The IDPH is now reporting a total of 12,262 cases of COVID-19 in Illinois including 307 deaths.
COVID-19 is being reported in 73 counties in Illinois.
The age of cases ranges from younger than one to older than 100 years.
