PEORIA, Ill. — The Peoria City/County Health Department said there were three new positive COVID-19 case tests between Friday and Saturday, bringing the Peoria-Tazewell-Woodford total to 26.
Woodford County remained at six, while Peoria’s and Tazewell’s counts rose to 10, a piece.
As case counts continue to rise, Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson said it’s essential to continue to avoid the temptation of gathering, even for circumstances for which it may seem an exception should be made.
“This Sunday is Palm Sunday,” she said.
“In these difficult times, faith, spirituality, and hope are essential. However, gathering is not essential.”
Samuel Duren, Peoria County Board of Health President and Zion Baptist Church Pastor, echoed that sentiment.
“May we learn through this season to be content, as [Saint] Paul wrote,” said Duren.
“He learned to be content whether he was poor, whether he was rich, whether he was hungry, or whether he was full. May be learn to be content as we’re going through this season.
“And I say it’s a season, for it too shall pass. We just don’t know how long.”
