PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria City/County Health Department announced one new COVID-19 case Friday at the daily news conference. The new case is in Tazewell County.
This brings the local total in the Tri-County area to 12. There are six cases in Peoria County, three cases in Woodford County and three cases in Tazewell County.
All but two of the confirmed cases are at home recovering. Both cases that are hospitalized are from Tazewell County, according to Public Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson.
At the daily news conference, Mayor Jim Ardis stressed the importance of supporting local businesses with some having to shut down during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Whether it’s an entrepreneur taking a risk on their first start-up or a long-standing family business, these are important assets to our community,” said Ardis. “We encourage the public to support these businesses when they can.”
Among ways to help out, Ardis mentioned ordering online, ordering take-out, or buying gift cards.
Earlier Friday, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 488 new cases across the state to bring the state total to 3,026.
